Annual Promotions
Celebrate Farm to School in Utah!
Whether you're a parent, teacher, student, or simply a passionate Utahn, there's a place for you in Utah's Farm to School movement. Our annual promotions are a fun and easy way to get involved—whether it's taking a crisp, local bite on Apple Crunch Day or visiting a ranch to learn more about meat production during Raising the Steaks, there are plenty of ways to connect with Utah's food system.
These celebrations are a great introduction to Farm to School, but more than that—they’re a chance to recognize and uplift our hardworking local farmers, ranchers, and producers. Celebrate however you want: in the classroom, the cafeteria, or even from your own kitchen. Every bite supports a stronger, more connected local food system!

April - Raising the Steaks
Raising the Steaks isn't just for steak. . . or hamburger, or chicken. It's a celebration of all the amazing meat products we raise and eat here in Utah. Did you know Sanpete County has more turkeys than people? And that Utah's trout farms produce products from smoked trout to caviar? Every April, we come together to celebrate Utah beef, bison, lamb, turkey, pork, fish, and more.
June - Squash Summer Hunger
As school lets out, childcare centers, summer meal sites, activity centers, and workplaces kick off the summer by celebrating Utah’s abundance of zucchini and other summer squash. While the celebration begins in June, it can continue all summer long—any time you’re enjoying fresh, seasonal produce!
Each October, schools, preschools, workplaces, and families across Utah celebrate National Farm to School Month with a big, loud Crunch into Utah-grown apples! The Apple Crunch is a fun way to highlight the delicious variety of local produce, help students learn where their food comes from, and show support for Utah farmers. Across the state, students taste-test apple varieties, visit orchards, and take part in apple-themed lessons and activities.
November - Harvest Gratitude Day
Harvest Gratitude Day is a one-day, statewide event that invites middle and high school students to connect directly with the farmers and producers who help feed their communities. Through live virtual farm tours and real-time Q&A sessions, students get a behind-the-scenes look at Utah agriculture and the opportunity to ask farmers questions about their work, crops, animals, and what it takes to grow food in our state.
